Should i buy nascar 2011

You can't change your setups before the race only on pit stops or save your preferences for future races. The wrecks, for all the times I'd seen the commercial where Greg Biffle's car flips wildly at Dover, weren't very impressive. When I would crash, other cars would simply pile in. A caution would wave, and we'd go on — the damage only slightly hampering the performance.

I found it difficult to use the Wii wheel with the game, so I changed the controls back to the standard thumbpad style. This made it even easier to win races — since I now had a better feel for the car — and even on the most difficult modes, I'd often be able to whoop the field.

For some reason, the user's car simply has more horsepower than any other in the game. And so on a straightaway, it's easy to pass a great number of cars at once thanks in part to the field usually running in a two-by-two pack, as if every race were a restrictor-plate event.

At one Pocono race, I intentionally started 43rd to get more of a challenge. By Turn 3 of the first lap, I was leading. Bottom line is that I understand this is meant to be an arcade racing game but for those hardcore NASCAR fans I recommend just renting this one or staying away completely until price drops perhaps.

Too many frustrating moments in this one. But why put out a game that was only halfway through the development phase? Career mode lacks depth and and a reward system, giving you no incentive to finish it at all, or play through again if you do slug through the snoozefest.

Guess what else? There's only one season to this '"career mode". Go a little closer, however, and you see the ugly truth: Car decals and stickers are extremely pixelated at close range, and every driver has the exact same face model. If you enter the free-roam camera mode, you'll notice that the AI cars have every detail on them really blurred. Look into their drivers seat, and you can see that every one of them are in the same "turn car right" animation, and no matter how many races you play, they are always like this.

Crashes are horrible: slam into a wall just a little, and your car will look like it was sheared in the side by a subway train. Opponents take absolutely no damage in this game, because, screw reality! Too arcadish. AI drive like it's a game of follow the leader and never try to pass or avoid wrecks. They make no effort to challenge you; I can get a 3 sec lead in two laps!

Overall, a black flag for Eutechnyx. The user interface is nice, although it suffers from the same problem that other games have in recent memory. It assumes that everyone playing is playing on an HDTV and I'm not , and not including an SD mode, thus making the text for tube televisions tiny and almost unreadable.

It's not like I need to see how far I am behind the leader or how much fuel I have remaining, right? The soundtrack has with only one subpar song. The cars sound as they should, although when pulling out of the pits for qualifying there's a weird skipping in the engine. The biggest issue here is the spotter. Just horrendous work here. As far as core gameplay goes, the game is solid. Not hardly Gran Turismo good, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

It's not nearly as terrible as Days of Thunder which was all about finding new and exciting ways to screw you over. Bristol and Daytona, as well as the road courses, have their moments.

With Bristol, there is absolutely no way to avoid the turn 4 wall, and sometimes, sliding against it bounces you into the air, stops all forward momentum, and sends you across the track in one of the game's more laughable moments. The main issue here is the rubber band AI. For one, there's just no middle ground when it comes to difficulty. Even Talladega. Hard mode? You'll never even touch the end of the pack. Maybe I'm just too spoiled by NR's difficulty sliders, but not having that middle ground is simply ridiculous.

Add in that the AI drivers just don't have any aggression to them except Daytona, where they will actively screw you over any chance they get, and you get one of the biggest disappointments about this game. If we stopped there, I could happily rate the game a B- and end the review.

But no, you see, there's far greater disappointment to be had. For one, the paint shop is one of the worst I've ever seen in a racing sim. Designs are needlessly hard to place, much less line up correctly on the other side of the car. View all NHL Sites. More Soccer News ». More Playing for 90 News ». View all Soccer Sites.
